The National Museum of Bangkok is one of the largest and important museums in the whole of South East Asia. Constructed in 1874, this museum was opened for the public by king Rama IV. In 1926, this museum came to be known as Bangkok Museum and was later christened as the National Museum. The museum has a 18th century palace and other well designed buildings. It also has a vast collection of various artistic artifacts of Bangkok as well as Thailand. The museum remains open from Wednesday to Sunday. It is generally open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. There are various tours which are conducted and are volunteered in English, French, German and Japanese. The entrance fee for National Museum is 40Baht.

Collection of Items in National Museum:
There are various items in the National Museum of Bangkok. All these items are important to the culture, heritage and tradition of Thailand. The items found in the National Museum basically lays emphasis on art, culture and archeology. The museum has a Gallery of Thai History which is again located in the Sivamokhaphiman Hall. There is also a prehistory gallery in the hall. Again there is an collection of History of Art and Archeology which is actually spread over various buildings which has Dvaravati and Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin.
There are other galleries and old palace buildings, various ethnological collectionsand a lot of minor arts. Other than this the museum has also has a large collections of gold treasure, enamel wares, mother of pearl inlay, musical instruments, wood carving, entertainment articles, textiles, ceramics, royal regalia, palanquins, old weapons and stone inscriptions and a lot more. There are various ceremonial exhibits and chariots are also kept here.
The National Museum here also has a monumental value and is also known as Palace to the front. Various European and Chinese furnitures. The various pavilions in the National Museum are breathtaking examples of Thai architecture.
