The construction of the station took six years and it was opened on 25th June, 1916. The structure of the building represents Italian Renaissance style. This magnificent 100 year old building represents the shape of an arc. This remarkable structure was designed by Mario Tamagno and Annibale Rigotti who had a great contribution in designing the public buildings of Bangkok in the early 20th century.
Most of the long-distance trains throughout the country of Thailand starts off from the main railway station of Hualamphong. The trains from the railway station go to four routes: northern, northeastern, eastern and southern routes. The railway covers 4,000 km and you can have a choice of four different categories of trains:
- Ordinary
- Rapid,
- Express
- Special Express
The trains provides you with three classes of cars, first class, second class and third class.
The railway station of Hualamphong serves around 60,000 passengers every day with the help of 130 trains.
Hualamphong Station houses 14 platforms, 26 ticket booths and 2 electric display boards. Passengers can purchase tickets or make the advanced booking at the railway ticket counter. The trains run throughout the country and the fare is also very reasonable.
