The maximum security prison museum was built in the year 1890 during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, also known as King Rama V. The prison museum was first established in the Bang Kwang Central Prison in 1939 . In the year 1987, the prison in Maha Chai road was demolished and Bangkok Corrections Museum was formed. The museum comprises of three blocks, a cellblock, a side of the prison wall and two watch towers. The rest part of the prison was transformed into a public park.
The park is known as Romanni Nart Park which was inaugurated on August 7, 1999.

The display of photographs of old prison compound and the process of demolition along with a scaled model of the old prison house creates the grave atmosphere in the museum. Besides this, there are life-size figures in wax exhibiting the suffering in execution scene.
The other exhibits in the museum include:

Sharpened bamboo sticks left under the nails of the prisoner with hands tied up.
The prisoners were flogged ninety times and then were beheaded by sword. The museum portrays the rude and ruthless prison life before the establishment of penal system.
