The construction of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall was started in the reign of King Rama V in the year 1908. The objective to construct this royal Hall was to serve the purpose of a throne hall which could be used to receive distinguished guests and conduct royal meetings and ceremonies. Built by a team of Italian architects the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is a two-storey building built of marble.
The building with exteriors depicting marble sculptors of human-beings and plants, represents the shape of a Latin Cross . There are six smaller domes surrounding the main and largest dome in the middle. The construction of Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall was completed in the reign of Rama VI. For the time being this great hall was used as the Parliament and after the construction of new Parliament it is now used for royal and other important state ceremonies.
The interiors of Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall also presents magnificent artistic creations in the form of paintings depicting the royal achievements of the Thai Kings, Rama I to Rama VI.
