Ancient City of Ayutthaya

The Ancient City of Ayutthaya is Thailand's most popular tourist attraction. It was founded in the year 1350 by Ramathibodi I or King U- Thong after the kingdom received challenges from the northern frontiers. Since its foundation, the Ancient City of Ayutthaya has been Thailand's capital for nearly 417 years. It has witnessed the rule of 33 kings under 5 dynasties.

The Ancient City of Ayutthaya was a very prosperous city involved in trade and state affairs. The successive kings were successful in maintaining peace. However the peaceful reign was finally destroyed in the year 1767 when the Burmese invaded the city.
IThe ruins of the Ancient City of Ayutthaya reflects its prosperous past. Located on the old Sukhumvit road, the ancient city lies 76 KM north of Bangkok. On the 13th of December 1991, the Ancient City of Ayutthaya was included in the list of World Heritage by UNESCO. The ancient city covers an area of 2556 square kilometers.

f you want to see the entire ancient city in detail then you will take the entire day. You can hire a bicycle to view the city as touring the city on foot might be a bit tiring. Thailand tourism has opened snack bars within the premises of the city. Floating Village is the best place to satisfy your hunger in Ancient City of Ayutthaya. So you can visit the city in the morning, have lunch in one of the snack bars and finally leave the city after sunset. Believe it, it will be the best day in your trip to Thailand.
